Vistaweave Mesh Fabrics

Vistaweave mesh is on most of the outdoor blinds we install around Noosa. It takes the heat and glare out of the afternoon sun but still lets the breeze and your view through.

How Vistaweave openness works

We stock Vistaweave in three weaves: 95%, 98% and 100% UV block. The percentage tells you how tightly the fabric is woven. The higher the number, the more sun, heat and glare it stops and the more private your deck feels, but the less you see through it and the less breeze gets in.

Colour changes the result almost as much as the weave. A dark mesh is easier to look through from inside, because your eyes aren't fighting light bouncing off the fibres. A light mesh reflects more heat, but the view looks a little washed out. On most Noosa homes we end up recommending a darker colour in 95% or 98%.

River-view homes vs ocean-front homes

Noosaville, Noosa Sound and the canals. These homes are relatively sheltered, and the outlook across the water is the reason people bought them. We usually suggest 95% in a dark colour to keep the view clear, stepping up to 98% on a west-facing side where the late sun reflects off the water straight into the living room.

Sunshine Beach, Castaways and Peregian. Here the sun comes up hard over the ocean and the north-easter blows most afternoons. A 98% weave takes more heat out and gives privacy from the beach track. Mesh also lets some wind pass through, which reduces the load on the blind compared with solid PVC. We pair it with a wind-rated track system so the fabric stays put.

Cooroy, Doonan and the hinterland. Less salt, more heat and more bugs. A tighter weave makes a western verandah far more usable on a February afternoon.

Salt air and UV on the beaches

Mesh copes with strong sun well. What shortens its life near the beach is what's left sitting on it: salt, sand, and the grime that mould feeds on in humid summers. The hardware matters just as much, so every mesh blind we install uses powder-coated aluminium channels and stainless fixings, which don't corrode the way cheaper steel does a block back from the surf.

Cleaning mesh in coastal conditions

Give the blinds a gentle hose-down with fresh water every month or so; beachfront homes may need it more often. For bird droppings or spots of mould, use a soft brush and mild soapy water, then rinse. Keep a pressure washer well away from the fabric, and let the blind dry before you roll it up so moisture isn't trapped in the roll.

Where we use mesh

Vistaweave is the standard fabric on our track-guided outdoor blinds, including Ziptrak® and eZIP®, and we also use it on vertical drop awnings — see our awnings page. If you want protection from rain rather than sun, look at our clear PVC café blinds instead, or combine the two: PVC on the weather side, mesh on the sunny side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can people see into my house through mesh blinds?

During the day, mesh gives good privacy because it's brighter outside than in. At night, with your lights on, people outside can see in, so if night-time privacy matters we'll talk about a tighter weave or a darker colour.

Will mesh keep the rain out?

Mesh stops light rain and most of the spray, but driving rain from a storm will get through. If you want to sit outside in the rain, choose clear or tinted PVC for the weather side.

What colour mesh should I choose?

Darker colours such as charcoal and black are the easiest to see through from inside and hide dust and salt marks. Lighter colours reflect more heat but make the view look slightly hazy. We'll bring samples so you can hold them up against your own outlook.

Do mesh outdoor blinds keep insects out?

Track-guided mesh blinds keep out most flying insects because the edges are held inside the side channels with no gap. They aren't a certified insect screen, but most clients near the river find they make evenings on the deck far more comfortable.
