Outdoor Blind Guides, Care & FAQs

Everything you need to know about measuring, maintaining, and choosing the perfect shade solution.

Measuring Guides

Ensure a perfect fit with our step-by-step measurement protocols.

How to Measure for Outdoor Blinds

  1. Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Use the smallest measurement.
  2. Measure the drop (height) from the mounting point to the sill or floor.
  3. Check for any obstructions like door handles, pipes, or light fittings.
  4. Note whether the blind will be a recess fit (inside the frame) or face-fit (outside the frame).

Note: Noosa Blinds & Awnings offers a free measure and quote service, so you don't have to worry about getting it perfectly right yourself!

How to Measure for Awnings

  1. Measure the total width of the area you want to shade.
  2. Determine the desired projection (how far out the awning should extend).
  3. Check the mounting surface (timber, steel, or brick) to ensure it can support the awning weight.
  4. Note the height clearance available for the awning casing and arms.

  • Acrylic Canvas: Highly durable, water-resistant, and available in vibrant colors. Primarily used for folding arm awnings and traditional sunblinds.

Motorised vs Manual Blinds: What to Choose

Motorised Blinds:

  • Pros: Ultimate convenience, can be linked to smart home systems, wind/sun sensors for automatic protection, ideal for large or hard-to-reach blinds.
  • Cons: Higher initial investment, requires electrical connection (though battery/solar options exist).

Manual Blinds:

  • Pros: Cost-effective, no power required, easy to operate via crank or spring-balanced systems.
  • Cons: Requires physical effort, no automated protection during sudden weather changes.
